Why the Numerical Section Changes Your Strategy

A practical rule: only guess on an MCQ if you can confidently eliminate at least one wrong option. If you have no idea at all, leaving it blank is usually the better call.
Common Mistakes Students Make With Negative Marking
1. Guessing wildly under time pressure. In the final minutes, panic-attempting every remaining MCQ regardless of confidence level often does more damage than leaving them blank, since each wrong guess erases the value of a correct answer elsewhere.
2. Leaving numerical questions blank out of hesitation. Since there's no penalty, an educated estimate on a numerical question is almost always worth attempting — treating it with the same caution as an MCQ is a missed opportunity, not a safe choice.
3. Not practicing the decision itself. Most mock practice focuses on solving correctly, not on practicing when to skip. This decision-making skill needs its own practice, ideally under real timed mock conditions where the temptation to guess is genuinely present.
4. Spending too long deciding whether to attempt. The decision of "attempt or skip" should take seconds, not minutes — if you're still deciding after a quick read, that's usually itself a sign to move on and return later if time permits.

- Solve what you know first, across all three subjects, before returning to uncertain questions.
- For remaining MCQs: attempt only if you can eliminate at least one option. Otherwise, skip and move on.
- For remaining numerical questions: attempt with your best estimate, since there's no downside.
